SECRET NUMBER 4 Marketing Your Video
So you have researched your target audience, filmed and edited your award winning promo, and now you're just waiting for the clients to come running to you now they have seen your genius.. but alas! They don't come running because know one has seen your web video! I'm sorry to have to break the bad news to you, but even though you thought you had done all the hard work by even finishing your film, the real work has only just begun: marketing your final production and making sure that your target audience see it.
This area really is so massive that we can barely skim the surface in the short time we have here, so to get you started we have listed some key pointers that will you help you on your way (but this list is by no means exhaustive so make sure to do your own research too):
(i) Upload your video onto all the sites that you can find on the web (and there are many more than YouTube and MySpace), as well as your own website. This first step is vital.
(ii) Join up to online forums and make regular posts. This way you can insert a direct link in your screen name to your web video and start getting traffic immediately!
(iii) Ask your peers to watch your video and give feedback. If you can, ask your existing customers to do the same and you might even pick up some business.
(iv) Ensure you include a direct link to your website/web video in every email you send.
(v) If you think it's that good, enter one of the hundreds of commercial film competitions that exist online and get yourself an award!
Just remember, the key point is that you must work hard to ensure people see your film. You must upload it everywhere you can and start creating a buzz around your work. Otherwise you have just wasted all that time and effort making your video - once its made its yours no more. Its for the world to see.
Happy Shooting!
