SECRET NUMBER 5 Tricks of the Trade
If it's your first web video production here are 3 crucial things the experts do which always makes sure you get the final film right:
1. Shoot cutaways - cutaways is the term used for using other non-scripted shots, such as noddies (interviewer nodding in response to a person's answers), close ups of the surroundings, reverse angle shots, etc. All of these extra pieces of footage will help you massivley in the edit when looking for ways to time your film and 'cut away' from the action.
2. Think like an editor - if you are shooting an interview for your website and, say, a plane flies overhead and bleeds into your sound, make sure you grab a shot of the plane for a visual reference in your film (thus explaining the source of the noise). Always think of the edit when shooting.
3. Record 'wild track' - make sure to record some audio wild track, which is simply an audio recording of the background noise of the environment you are filming in. This is invaluable for smoothing the audio in your edit from one clip to the next, and allows the overall audio mix to be consistent.
Put simply, always remember to shoot extra material on the day - even if its only variations of angles of your subject! You will thank yourself no end when it comes to completing your final film.
Happy shooting!
